Forest Hill was named so as the area was originally filled with nothing but trees on a hill and the summer residence of John Wickson. The hill remains, but the trees are long gone being replaced by luxury houses and luxury condominiums. Forest Hill is split into 2 sections, Lower Forest Hill and Upper Forest Hill. Lower Forest Hill was developed first and began in the 1920's, followed by Upper Forest Hill which began in the 1940's. Lower Forest Hill was being used by the old Belt Line railway, and therefore took longer to develop.
The houses in the Forest Hill area are very unique in the fact that they are at minimum 50 foot lots and going up to over 100 foot lots. The majority of the houses were designed by architects as that is what the laws stated at the time. The lower part of Forest Hill was built in the 1920's and 1930's. The houses in the Upper Village part of Forest Hill were built soon after in the 1940's and 1950's. Forest Hill also now contains several luxury condominium residences in the St. Clair and Spadina area. Also some of the old apartment buildings in the Spadina Village have been converted into condominium residences. The new houses are all luxury built homes and easily start over $1,000,000.
